Smith & Nephew Acticoat 10cm x 20cm is a sterile, single-use antimicrobial silver dressing designed to help manage infection and support wound healing. Featuring nanocrystalline silver technology, Acticoat delivers sustained broad-spectrum antimicrobial action to reduce bioburden in burns, surgical wounds, chronic ulcers and other contaminated or at-risk wounds.

Ingredients and Materials

Acticoat features a nanocrystalline silver coating on a flexible polymer mesh and a soft, non-adherent wound contact layer. The dressing is sterile and supplied for single use. Manufactured by Smith & Nephew, Acticoat 10cm x 20cm contains sustained-release silver designed to provide prolonged antimicrobial action at the wound surface.

How to Use

Use Acticoat as part of an overall wound management plan under the guidance of a healthcare professional. Typical application steps:

1. Cleanse the wound per clinical protocol and achieve haemostasis if required.
2. Select the appropriate size (10cm x 20cm can be trimmed aseptically to fit the wound).
3. Place the dressing in direct contact with the wound bed; ensure full coverage.
4. Secure with a suitable secondary dressing to maintain an optimal moist wound environment.
5. Leave in place up to 7 days or as clinically indicated; change sooner if heavy exudate or contamination occurs.
6. To remove, irrigate with saline and gently lift; disposal as clinical waste.

Acticoat 10cm x 20cm is intended for patients with infected or at-risk wounds including partial- and full-thickness burns, surgical wounds, traumatic wounds, diabetic foot ulcers and chronic leg ulcers. Intended for use by or under the direction of healthcare professionals. Suitable for adult and paediatric patients when clinically indicated.

Caution & Storage

Cautions: Do not use if patient has a known hypersensitivity to silver or dressing components. Discontinue use if allergic reaction or increased irritation occurs. For single use only — do not re-sterilise. Use clinical judgement when applying near eyes or large open cavities.
Storage: Store in original packaging in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Check expiry date before use. Keep out of reach of children and dispose of used dressings as clinical/biological waste according to local regulations.
